What ProjectCostWise does
ProjectCostWise provides free educational planning ranges for home projects, detailed paid project reports, cost guides and an optional contractor quote-request service. The estimator is meant to help homeowners frame a budget and ask better questions. It does not inspect a property and does not replace a contractor’s written proposal, engineer, appraiser or licensed professional.
How our cost content is created
Published cost-guide examples are tied to the same editable assumptions used by the ProjectCostWise estimator. We keep a public methodology page that explains the formula, complexity multipliers, ZIP-code behavior and limitations. When we publish benchmark datasets, we identify whether the numbers are modeled planning assumptions or observed data.
Editorial standards
- Transparency: modeled planning assumptions are labeled as assumptions and are not presented as contractor-bid averages.
- Consistency: cost-guide examples should match the estimator’s current default rates and formula.
- Usefulness: guides focus on scope, cost drivers, contractor questions and realistic planning decisions rather than filler content.
- Updates: methodology and research pages carry publication or update dates when figures or formulas change.
- Corrections: material errors should be corrected promptly and related pages reviewed for the same issue.
- Separation of content and sales: paying for a detailed report or participating in contractor monetization does not change the calculator formula or editorial explanation of costs.
How ProjectCostWise makes money
The free estimator is intended to remain useful without requiring a purchase. ProjectCostWise may earn revenue from the optional $9.99 detailed project report and from contractor lead-generation or related contractor services. Homeowners are not required to buy a report or request contractor contact in order to use the free planning estimator.
Data and privacy
ProjectCostWise may use aggregated, anonymized information to improve planning guidance when enough reliable data exists. Personal information submitted for contractor matching is handled under the Privacy Policy. Any future public research using observed project or quote information should be presented in aggregate rather than exposing an individual homeowner’s personal details.
Research and citation
Our current research release, 2026 Home Project Cost Benchmarks, publishes the default planning examples for 16 project categories and provides a downloadable CSV. Publishers and researchers may cite figures with clear attribution and a link back to the source page.
Corrections or questions
If you spot a possible error, inconsistency or unclear statement, use the ProjectCostWise contact page. Please include the page URL and the specific figure or statement you believe should be reviewed.
